Art Masterpiece

PPES Art Masterpiece Program

The Art Masterpiece program is designed to introduce significant works of art to children and build an appreciation for fine art while enhancing their lessons in Social Studies, Science, Geography and other subjects.

This program is administered and presented by parent volunteers, in cooperation with teachers. As with the rest of the school’s curriculum, we follow the Core Knowledge program. The Core Knowledge program includes core visual arts (see “Planning Your Projects”).

In a nutshell, a parent presents a 5-15 minute discussion about a masterpiece, including the artist, the medium and/or technique used as well as the piece itself. The discussion can be based on a lesson plan available on-line (see below) or in the library or developed by the parent. The parent will have a print of the art masterpiece available to show the class. These prints are stored in our library. The lesson includes a project for the children to complete. The project is based on the technique or inspiration of the masterpiece. Basic supplies are provided in the copy room. A group calendar (see below) keeps us organized – please email Sarah or Toni when you've scheduled a session, what artwork you'll be using and what supplies you'll need - we will update the calendar and keep it current.  We will not be emailing the whole group this year - please check this calendar to see if the art or supplies you want to use are available on the day you want them.
